You asked...

I am working with a woman who is pregnant and she is concerned that all of the stirred up emotion will be felt by her baby in her womb causing undo harm and residual emotional damage to the baby's psyche.  Does she need to be concerned about this?

Ed Smith's response:

When you are uncertain about what to do in any particular situation it is best to ask someone else who knows more.  I am not a medical doctor and I do not have a medical degree so I cannot give you a decisive answer.  However, I am sure this woman is under the care of a pediatrician who can give you wise and knowledgeable counsel.  I would suggest that you have her discuss this issue with her doctor and get his or her advice.  Depending on the intensity of the memory she might have to visit, there could be undo stress put upon the child.  I do not know if this is true or not but it seems to be plausible.   She might give a copy of Healing Life's Hurts to her doctor so that the doctor has a better understanding of what the TPM process.  It is also important to note that if the woman's emotional status is not in turmoil it might be best to wait until after the delivery of the child just to be on the safe side.  Waiting a few months before doing ministry probably would not hurt anything.  The lies that she is harboring will not go anywhere in the meantime.  However, if there is substantial emotional pain coming from her lie-based thinking this may be creating emotional duress for the child as well.  Here again I defer to the medical professional that is caring for her.

I hope that this helps
